Who Needs Lap Adjustable Gastric Banding?

LAGB is recommended for people with severe obesity. Your doctor may recommend this surgical procedure if your BMI is above 40, with or without comorbidities.

How is LAGB Performed?

Lap Adjustable Gastric Banding is a minimally invasive procedure. The surgeon makes a few small incisions on the abdominal region through which a laparoscope, a flexible optic tube with a camera attached to its end, is inserted. With the help of miniature surgical instruments through other incisions, the surgeon places an adjustable band around the uppermost part of the stomach, separating the stomach into large and small portions. This silicone band is known as a lap band and provides a sense of satiety, thus reducing food intake. After surgery, the patient could cut down on food and fluids, thus leading to weight loss.
