Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding is a widely performed bariatric surgical procedure. The desired result is restricting food and fluid intake and preventing sudden hunger pangs, thus triggering weight loss.

Lap Adjustable Gastric Banding is a minimally invasive procedure. The surgeon makes a few small incisions on the abdominal region through which a laparoscope, a flexible optic tube with a camera attached to its end, is inserted. With the help of miniature surgical instruments through other incisions, the surgeon places an adjustable band around the uppermost part of the stomach, separating the stomach into large and small portions. This silicone band is known as a lap band and provides a sense of satiety, thus reducing food intake. After surgery, the patient could cut down on food and fluids, thus leading to weight loss.
The patient may have to stay in the hospital for 2 to 3 days after LABG.
The patient will be advised to take only a liquid diet for the first two weeks and a particular diet plan for the first few weeks. Eating regular foods can be resumed a month after the procedure.
It may take up to a year to achieve the desired weight loss.
